Earthen Harvest

It is a sustainable architectural endeavor that harmonizes design with the environment. Situated on a 1.63-acre site, it includes an office building, community hall, lab, herbal garden, eco-friendly sewage treatment and a rainwater harvesting pond. The project embraces the natural landscape, using bioclimatic ventilation, lighting and passive cooling principles. The staggered layout along the contoured terrain reduces soil erosion, enhances cross-ventilation and maximizes daylight while minimizing heat radiation. Key sustainable features include interlocking mud blocks from site-sourced soil, high-performance glazing, energy-efficient equipment and renewable energy systems. The project significantly reduces steel, concrete and non-recyclable materials while recycling 90% of water and waste. The classical vernacular design integrates open courtyards for natural ventilation, inspired by traditional Kannadiga dwellings. By using locally sourced materials and reducing the carbon footprint, the project exemplifies how vernacular architecture can be combined with modern sustainability principles, creating a functional, aesthetically pleasing and environmentally responsible space.
